Middle East – Top 5 Destinations!

Last year, I visited the ‘youngest country on earth’ – aka New Zealand – and this year I had the privilege of visiting some of the oldest ones. My journey started in the city formerly known as Philadelphia – over 11,000 km in distance from PA, USA, and over 10,000 years older – Amman, Jordan.

In addition to Jordan, I travelled to some of the mosthistoric and breathtaking sites in Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, Israel and Egypt. I saw some of the seven wonders of the world; viewed archeological remnants of the Stone and Bronze ages as well as the Assyrian, Persian, Greek, Roman, Christian, Jewish, and Islamic eras; visited modern cities as well as areas under extreme poverty and brutal occupation; and witnessed both animosity and harmony among different societies in one of the most troubled spots in the world today.

But the beauty of the countries and hospitality of the citizens far outweighed concerns one might have about visiting the Middle East. It is definitely one of the places to visit, if you know beforehand what to expect. To help you choose your next holiday destination, I’ve come up with my own Top 5.

During the course of the next few weeks I’ll be counting down to No 1, but here’s a sneak peak at the destinations, in order of my visits:

– Amman & Dead Sea, Jordan
– Petra & Wadi Rum, Jordan
– Syria, Damascus
– Beirut, Lebanon
– Jerusalem and West Bank
– Cairo, Egypt

Hope you enjoy my notes and stay tuned for No 5!
