Top 10 cities I visited
Unlike #10, which I really wouldn’t recommend visiting unless you have family there, Bankok is a haven for tourists and travellers. Even though I and my family visited Thailand many many years ago, it continues to this day to be a great bargain travel spot. The weather is quite mild, the scenery (if you venture into the coastline) is absolutely remarkable, and the city has a lot to offer the average Westerner.
When I visited Bankok as a child, the city was quite advanced compared to the places I had been to. The hotels are an amazing deal – one can stay in a 5 star hotel for what we’d pay at Motel 6. The people are warm, the streets well laid out, and the malls are bustling with gadgets from other – more expensive – Asian cities such as Tokyo or Hong Kong at a bargain price. Of course it also has negative reputations but as a child or tourist it is a great place to visit.
Bankok was one of the more frequent destinations for us, compared to Manila, Hong Kong, Singapore, and even Tokyo. Because it was a transit point for our travels, as children I and my brothers basically chilled inside the airport by ourselves, checking out airplanes. Something we did quite often in many airports, thanks to my dad’s job in the airline. We travelled quite a lot – and for FREE – so by age 10 the only places I hadn’t visited were Australia and South America. I’m sure we would have, if things didn’t get in the way…like school!
